TESTIMONIALS
I love driving and being out on the road, rather than being stuck in the office. It feels like you’re your own boss. Going through the Zum training program to become a certified school bus driver prepared me very well for the job. I think joining Zum is a smart choice and a rewarding, stable future — not just a job, but a career.

I love driving, I love being around kids and trying to make a difference in their lives every chance I get. … I know that I’m not just a number here at Zum, and that means a lot.

I really felt supported through the whole process. I don’t know that I would have been able to go through with it if it hadn’t been for the amazing staff and the instruction that I received with Zum.

Zum has been very open-minded on how to support the drivers. … Every single trainee that we have, they’re a part of us. We go through this whole journey together with them, from start to end. When they go to test, it’s like we’re with them — and the sense of relief when they pass is like I just passed the test along with them. It’s very rewarding.

I feel like I’m a family member, not just an employee. I love what I do, I see Zum loves what we do, and also we have room for growth.

The people at Zum are welcoming and, quite frankly, awesome people. The camaraderie here is just the best.

I’m excited to do my route, and I’m excited to see my students every day, so it’s easier for me to get up and come to work because I love what I’m doing. Seeing all the students and their smiles and the laughter that they have … it brings joy.
All of the people – the dispatchers, everybody – work together. They understand stuff that I’m going through and, having my two kids at home, they are more understanding and appreciative for certain things I do. I actually never had an award before; I got one last year. It shows that they pay attention to what drivers do. It just became like another sort of a family, to the point where I just love to go to work. And obviously all the kids and the parents think you’re a really special person.
I treat the kids like I would treat my own kids. The kids are precious cargo to me, and I keep them safe. That’s what I always call them – I mean, I’ve never told them that, but I just keep it in my mind. My precious cargo.

I’m a retired business owner and a former high school teacher and coach. After the pandemic, I saw (Drivers Wanted) signs all over. So I signed up and got my CDL. All the kids I used to teach and coach, they’re your family. And I got that family atmosphere back by driving a bus. It’s fun, I feel good, and they like to have me around.
(Zum’s technology) is far better than having a piece of paper. I really like using the tablets. It’s great for checking on my everyday route and making sure kids get off the bus. For these sports trips, especially if I go out of town, the GPS really helps a lot.

As a bus driver, you set the tone for them going to school and even going home. It’s great to be influential that way. A lot of the time, depending on the kid, they just want someone to show them love. For me, it’s easier if you have that type of rapport with your kids and they trust you to be themselves.

The kids have such big hearts. I watch a lot of them grow up before me, and it is really rewarding to see. … The other drivers at the yard have become my family.

At times, we as bus drivers are the first person or the last person that some kids see during the day, she told the Santa Barbara Independent. We have a real opportunity to make a difference.

As a parent, I love tracking everything on the app. As a driver, I appreciate that Zum listens to input from experienced drivers and has hired fantastic managers.

The kids are our future, and being part of their journey is a great opportunity.

To me, sustainability is doing things the right way, so [my granddaughters] will have a nice place to play and live.

I am blown away by the amount of generosity, spirit and time this bus driver community dedicates. We care so deeply about the children we take to and from school every day.

I think the bus driver plays a very vital role in the community, in the child’s life. When you open the door of the bus, you’re opening the door to their educational process.
